Saving Money on Gas

How can you save some money? The answer you don’t want to hear is that you can simply save money by not driving as much.  See, I told you that you didn’t want to hear that answer.  But, the fact is, there are only so many ways for you to save money on gas that don’t involve just not driving.  And, the biggest one is just not using your car.  It is definitely going to take some getting used to because we are so dependent on our vehicles.  Many of us live in suburbia, where driving is really the only way to get from here to there.  Walking is not a viable solution when the nearest store is 8 miles away and public transport don’t exist in many areas outside of cities.

So, how can you save money while still having to drive?  Well, one way is through carpooling.  We’re not talking about the typical car pool either.  What we are discussing here is sharing rides to the local places where your neighbors need to go too.  You can get together with a couple of the cool neighbors and figure out what day is whose and then devise a schedule whereby you can either all go to a certain few stores or one person can go to each store with the others’ list.  This way, you can knock them all out quickly and still save money on your gas.

This might sound a bit extreme just to save a few bucks.  But the whole point is that you are not only saving money but saving the air and other natural resources in the process.  If you are not worried about this stuff, then just forget you ever read this brief little article.  Forget that your kids will have to inherent a mess of an environment if we need to drive one mile to get a soda or that morning coffee.  You can even forget that you need to save money, because if you don’t want to be inconvenienced at all, you’ll need a lot of luck on your side.  Saving money will require you to make some sacrifices, it just may not need to take the form of ride-sharing.
