What To Look For In Radiator Primer

Refurbishing a cast iron radiator isn’t a task to be taken lightly. You need to do the right amount of planning before hand if you’re going to do the job right. Failure to do so could lead to your radiator rusting horribly. If you’re going to repaint the radiator, you’ll definitely need to apply primer beforehand. Not every primer is good for cast iron radiators, though. Make sure to find one that includes zinc or zinc chromate in the mix. This is important because the zinc helps the paint you’re about to apply bond well to the cast iron itself. Metal bonds well to other kinds of metal – an intuitive prospect. This is why you absolutely need the zinc to be present in the primer. Otherwise you’re refurbishing job just won’t work as well as it could.
